A WHITE JADE TAPERING OVOID SNUFF BOTTLE It is extremely rare to fnd this type of stylized foral medallion decoration
PROBABLY IMPERIAL, PROBABLY PALACE WORKSHOPS, BEIJING, on a jade snuf bottle. Similar foral medallion decoration can be seen on a
1720-1800 series of famille rose bowls from the Yongzheng and Qianlong periods, such
as the Qianlong-marked pair sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 7 July 2003, lot
The fattened bottle is raised on a concave oval foot, and carved 586. The elegant, high-shouldered shape of the present bottle compares
allover with a pattern of stylized fower heads. The stone is of even, favorably to a series of jade vase-form snuf bottles made for the court, such
pale greenish-white color. as those illustrated in Snuf Bottles from the Collection of the National Palace
Museum, Taipei, 1991, p. 151, nos. 124-26, and p. 155, nos. 134-35.
