The seal used by Nonomura Ninsei, who established
himself at Kioto about 1650 a.d., and originated the
manufacture of faience in Awata, a district of that city.
The productions of this artist occupy the foremost place
amongst the works of the Japanese potter. This seal, which
reads Nin-sei, is impressed upon the Perfume Box of faience
mentioned on page 40.
