                                                  No. 228.

                         The   seal  used  by   Kichizayemon,    the  iith  in  descent
                    from Ameya, and      the  present  representative  of  the  family.
                    Impressed    upon   a  Tea    Bowl   said  to  have   been   made
                    in  1840  A.D.   The   upper character   is  the Raku seal   ;  the
                    other mark reads Kai-raku-yen seisu, or Made by Kairaknyen,
                    this probably being the professional name of Kichizayemon.
