                                         No. 224.
               Impressed upon a Tea Bowl         of Raku ware made by a
           descendant of Ameya, the founder of the Chojiro family, who
           settled at Kioto in 1550 a.d., and originated this manufacture,
           as  related  in  the  introduction.  This example   is taken from
           a tea bowl   said  to have    been  made    by  Chojiro,  the 2nd
           in descent from Ameya, or by Nonko          1630 or 1650 a.d.

               The   seal  Raku,   impressed    upon   a Tea Bowl said     to
          have been made by Saniu, the         6th  in descent from Ameya;
          1730 A.D.

               The   seal  Raku,    impressed upon    a Tea Bowl      said  to
          have   been   made    by   Riyoniu,.  the  gth   in  descent   from
           Ameya     1790  a.d.
