The inscription painted in black, and the seal stamped in
red, in an oribon containing a series of paintings in lacquer.
This style was invented by Zeshin Shibata, a celebrated artist
of the present day; his works are highly esteemed in Japan.
Ze-shin. The seal is his mark.
No. 586.
Painted in black on a paper label upon a makimono con-
taining illustrations of the greatest beauty, executed in the
Tosa and Kano styles, and an account of the Chinese
fairy tale Kosuiden, written in Chinese - and Hira-kana
characters. Ko-su-i-den, the title of the work. The date
is probably the first half of the 17th century.
