                      Worked     upon    Embroidered   ,, Satin.   Ho-kio   no  sho.
                  The   seal  of  Hokio.     Hokio   is   a  title  conferred   upon
                  Artists.  The characters   in  the right-hand   half of   the  seal
                  are  Hokio     the  upper ones    to  the  left  are  no, meaning
                              ;
                  of, and  the lower one    is  sho, The   Seal.   The   latter word
                  has  the   same   meaning    as   in,  which  is  generally   used.
                  These   characters  are written   in  various ways,   as may be
                  seen by the following examples      :










                  RIOYEN NO IN.  MASATAMI NO IN.  NO IN.    RINKONO IN.   SHIJIU NO IN.
                  The Seal of Rioyen.  The Seal of Masaiami.  The Seal of.  The Seal of Rhiko.  The Seal ofShijiu.
                       In rare instances the character no      is omitted, and that
                  of  in  only  is  given,  as  in the  following mark
