A RARE INSIDE-PAINTED ‘CAMELS’ GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE This is a wonderful example of Zhang Baotian’s hand. The scene of
Zhang Baotian camels is a fairly rare one, however there is at least one other camel
Signed and dated Jihai year, corresponding to 1899, Beijing scene painted by the artist in a bottle dated to the preceeding year,
Painted on one side with three camels and riders, one dismounted, all 1898 in the Humphrey Hui collection, see Humphrey K.F. Hui, Lai Suk
below the inscription and seal, tian yin, the reverse with a village scene Yee and Peter Y.K. Lam, Inkplay in Microcosm, Inside-painted Chinese
in a mountain landscape; stopper. Snuff Bottles, The Humphrey K.F. Hui Collection, Art Museum, The
2 3/8in (6cm) high Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2002, no. 97. The placement of
the camels is almost identical but with a few obvious differences in
$5,000 - 7,000 positioning.
