AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE PAIR OF IMPERIAL PALE GREEN
JADE WINE VESSELS, JUE
Incised Qianlong four-character marks and of the period
Superbly carved after the archaic bronze jue vessel, each lustrous
translucent stone exquisitely carved in relief with two friezes enclosing
confronted archaistic dragon and phoenix, the reverse with a taotie
mask, all reserved on a leiwen ground divided by notched flanges,
rising from three blade-form supports enriched with taotie motifs to
a flared spouted mouth, the rim surmounted by two mythical beasts
and a pair of mushrooms, the flat-back vessels when positioned back
to back forming the shape of a complete double-spouted jue vessel,
wood stands and box.
