Acquired by a private American collector in the late 1970s at Seah Kim
Joo Gallery, Singapore; thence by descent
Seah Kim Joo was drawn to the traditional art form of batik painting
during his childhood spent in the state of Trengganu, Malaysia. After
attending the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts beginning in 1959, he
returned to Trengganu to further study batik, adapting the techniques
5035 to create modern works depicting Malayan life.
