AN INSIDE-PAINTED GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE
Gui Xianggu, dated by inscription to gengzi, corresponding to 1900
Of rounded rectangular form, with a slightly tapering neck, concave lip,
recessed and convex foot surrounded by a splayed foot ring; painted
in ink and subdued colors on one side with Huang Chengyan on a
donkey approaching a bridge over a river in a snowy landscape, his
attendant walking on his right side, inscribed, dated, and signed, with
two painted red seal marks; the reverse painted with the Tang dynasty
poet Li Bai seated next to a large basket-encased wine jar while a
young servant tries to move another wine jar towards him, the top
inscribed with a relevant poem followed with a red seal mark reading
chen.

A RARE INSIDE-PAINTED GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE
Yu Shuyun, dated by inscription to yiwei, corresponding to 1895
The rectangular bottle supported by a splayed foot ring, with a tapering
neck, flat lip, the interior painted on a reddish-brown washed ground,
one side depicting a range of soaring mountain peaks in olive-green
and brick-red surrounding a peaceful watercourse scene with a bridge
and dwelling nestled on the bank, the top with a dedication inscription,
signed, with two red seal marks; the reverse masterfully inscribed in
calligraphy styles of archic, clerical, running, and regular scripts, and
painted with six red seal marks; signed and dated.
