A carved white jade boulder with sixteen figures of luohan
The horizontal-form matrix well carved and deeply undercut, one side presenting eleven
luohan figures seated on jagged platforms around a censer with burning incense, all in a
grotto framed by overhanging rocks and trees, the reverse carved with five additional figures of
luohan holding their attributes standing in two leveled grottos with scattered foliage, the lower
compartment with a vase containing lingzhi fungus; the white stone with a subtle gray tone,
suffused with russet inclusions and fissure lines, fitted upon a matched spinach jade base
carved with rockery surfaces and wave scrolls.
