AN INSCRIBED DUAN STONE SNUFF BOTTLE
19TH CENTURY
The fattened pear-shaped bottle is carved in low relief and decorated in
gilt and red to one side with a circular roundel with three archaistic dragons
forming the character long, the narrow sides with lion-mask fxed-ring handles.
The reverse side is incised with a twelve-character poem ‘duan xi yu niang cai
wen run bi mei yu,yu zhi’, which may be translated as ‘the river Duan produces
good material as good as touching jade, imperial made’.

AN AMBER ‘DRAGON AND TIGER’ SNUFF BOTTLE
19TH CENTURY
The pebble-shaped bottle is carved in high relief with a tiger on one and a
dragon on the other side, between ruyi clouds, leaves and branches. The bottle
is of a deep caramel and light honey tone.

A SIX-COLOUR GLASS OVERLAY SNUFF BOTTLE
19TH CENTURY
The fattened baluster bottle is carved on one side with a tree shrew amongst
fruiting vines and on the other side with a cicada, all on a snowfake ground
above rockwork.
