A PAIR OF SILVER GILT FILIGREE ‘PHOENIX’
HAIRPINS
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644) OR LATER
Each pin-head is formed by a delicately worked phoenix
looking over its shoulder. Their feathers are intricately
rendered gilt fligree and they are perched on a small
leaf attached to the cylindrical tapering shafts.

A JADEITE MANDARIN’S COURT NECKLACE, CHAOZHU
19TH CENTURY
The necklace is composed of 108 jadeite beads divided by three hardstone
beads, jiezhu, ‘connecting beads’. A yellow woven ribbon leads to the beiyun,
‘back cloud’ which is weighed down by a pendant with a gilt metal mount.
There are three secondary pendants formed of 10 turquoise beads.

A CORAL MANDARIN’S COURT NECKLACE, CHAOZHU
19TH CENTURY
The necklace is composed of 108 coral beads divided by four larger jadeite
beads, jiezhu, ‘connecting beads’. The central jiezhu has a woven yellow ribbon
leading to the beiyun, ‘back cloud’ which is weighed down by a jadeite bead.
There are three secondary pendants formed of 10 beads.
