QING DYNASTY
One depicting a scholar holding a fan whilst his other hand opens his loose
robes revealing his bony chest, the other carved as a figure sprawled on
the ground having just captured a bat, his face with a joyful expression,
15cm and 14.5cm. (2)

A CHINESE CORAL CARVING OF A LADY
19 CENTURY

The slender figure stands dressed in long robes finely incised with key
fret, she holds large flowering blooms in one hand, her hair piled high and
set in place with three small blossoms, all attached to a wood stand, the
underside of the stand with a collection label for no.65 and a paper catalogue
description for lot 25 beneath an inscription reading ‘Sotheby 23 July 1963’,
16.8cm.

A CHINESE BAMBOO CARVING OF LIU HAI
QING DYNASTY
Formed as Liu Hai seated upon the three-legged toad, he wears a pair of
hooped earrings and trousers held up by a belt suspending two peaches,
the creature carved with bulging eyes and its mouth agape revealing a
toothy grin, 17.5cm.

The larger figure carved as Guanyin standing upon a dragon-carp holding
a shell in her right hand, the smaller figure depicting Shoulao holding a
peach and his staff, his robes, shoes and the gourd hanging from his staff
all decorated in silver wire with cranes, auspicious emblems and geometric
designs, 72.5cm and 53cm. (2)
