Of rounded spade shape, the crackled-white glazed soft-paste bottle Of oviform shape, the bottle with molded and applied decoration in
molded and carved in a continuous scene with nine dragons in pursuit very high relief naturalistically depicting a crane standing on one leg
of various flaming pearls set against a backdrop of waves, the neck amidst the branches of pine tree, the needle groupings and branches
edge with a metal rim and the mouth dressed in brown, molded reaching around to the reverse side of the bottle with a four-character
vertically in along the narrow sides. molded seal mark in a line to the base.

For a very similar bottle from the same so-called ‘soft-paste’ ceramic This bottle features a crane and pine tree in a continuous scene that
body and also crisply molded, see Robert Hall, Chinese Snuff Bottles, wraps around the bottle. The molding is in unusually high relief as the

some places. Molded porcelain produced by artists at the Jingdezhen
kilns were popular during the Daoguang period. A similar high relief
‘crane and pine’ molded porcelain bottle with an inscription by Wang
Bingrong was sold at Sothebys New York, March 23rd and 24th,
1998, lot 103; and a similarly plump crane is found on a bottle signed
by Chen Guozhi illustrated by Hugh Moss, Victor Graham and Ka Bo
Tsang, The Art of the Chinese Snuff Bottle, The J & J Collection, Vol. 1,
1993, p. 416-417, no. 249.
