For a discussion on the artist Li Yucheng and illustrations of two
signed examples, see Hugh Moss, Victor Graham and Ka Bo Tsang,
A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles, The Mary and George Bloch
Collection, Vol. 6, Part 3, Arts of the Fire, pp. 78-783, no’s. 1362 and
1363. The authors note that his works are considerably rarer than
Wang Bingrong’s, who is generally considered as the instigator of this
style of molded porcelain. The second bottle cited, no. 1363, is the
most comparable to ours, though the subjects are different flora, rose
and orchid. Like ours it has the abbreviated name Yucheng, incised to
the base, rather than the full name.
