     A FINELY INLAID HUANGHUALI BRUSH POT

     LATE MING DYNASTY, 16TH-17TH CENTURY

     The cylindrical brush pot is finely inlaid with wood, mother-of-
     pearl, coral, malachite, soapstone, turquoise, and lapis-lazuli to
     depict a long gnarled bough bearing prunus in various stages of
     bloom, entwined with camellia branches. The ground is further
     detailed with lingzhi and orchid leaves emerging from rocks.
