A TIANHUANG ‘MYTHICAL BEAST’ SEAL

QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)

The tianhuang seal is of rectangular section, surmounted by a two-
horned mythical beast turned its head to one side. The seal face is
uncarved.

TWO SOAPSTONE ‘MYTHICAL BEAST’ SEALS

QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)

The tianhuang seal is of square section, surmounted by a single-

horned mythical beast sharply with its head turned to one side.

The seal chop is carved in intaglio with the three characters

shizi lin. The soapstone seal is similarly carved with a single-

horned mythical beast, the seal face left plain.
