         TWO - PART DOOR WITH PLUMS,
         CRANES AND MEDALLIONS OF
         GOOD FORTUNE.
         ZWEITEILIGE TÜR MIT
         PFLAUMEN, KRANICHEN UND
         GLÜCKSMEDAILLONS.
         China. Qing dynasty (1644 - 1911).
         Prob. elm or zelkova wood, carved
         in bas - relief with dark lacquer and
         polished. Door grip plates carved from
         wood. The door is made of two wider
         side and a central narrow part. It opens
         asymmetrically.
         The outer wings each divided in
         Height into two panels, with a narrow
         one in between. Both sides designed in
         opposite directions: Above and below a
         bat with ornamental wings connected
         by knotted cords and archaic dragon
         tendrils. The upper bat holds a chain
         with a chime stone in its mouth, from
         which a medallion with the character for
         good fortune hangs with tassels. In the
         other field flowering plums with bamboo
         and a small crane. In the small field in
         the middle flowering twigs or angular
         tendrils.
         The narrow part in the center with five
         narrow, high rectangular fields with
         flowering twigs or angular spirals.
         The grip plates placed here. Two - part.
         Height 210cm, Width 63 and 42.5cm.
         Condition A/B. Chipped at the corners.
         Traces of age and use.
