The censer has a rounded bowl that is raised on a hexagonal
pedestal foot molded with overlapping petals. The domed cover
is molded in the form of a stylized mountain peak that rises to a A similar qingbai tripod boshanlu censer is in the collection of the
star-shaped opening and is pierced at the sides with cloud-form Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka, and illustrated in Sįdai no
apertures. Both are covered overall with a glossy translucent glaze seihakuji (Qingbai Wares of Song Dynasty), Osaka, 1994, p. 16,
of brilliant aquamarine-blue tone. no. 42. Another related qingbai tripod boshanlu censer in the
collection of the Idemitsu Museum is illustrated in Tįyį no shiroi

$5,000-7,000 Pure World), Tokyo, 2012, p. 42, no. 54, described as Fujian type
from the Southern Song dynasty.

The bowl is carved through the pale milky-blue glaze on the
interior with a blossoming prunus spray and a crescent moon. The
details and the interior rim edge are painted in a reddish-brown slip
and the recessed unglazed base is inscribed in black ink with the
character hai (sea).

Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, vol. 1, London, 1994, made at the nearby Jizhou kilns, such as the example illustrated
p. 278, no. 515, where it is noted that similar wares with a light by R. Krahl in Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection,
blue qingbai glaze applied over a slip have been excavated at the vol. 1, London, 1994, p. 279, no. 517, and another from the Falk
Baishe kilns in Nanfeng county, Jiangxi province. A similar small Collection, sold at Christie's New York, 16 October 2001,
conical bowl excavated at Baishe is illustrated in Kaogu, 1985, No. lot 96.
