Dated by inscription 1882
Set on three bamboo-form slender legs, on
a domed rockwork circular base, the body
decorated with a dense scene of warriors
and officials in a tree-strewn landscape, the
crest inscribed ‘Province Wellesley Sports
Club, Lawn Tennis Challenge Cup, Won By
Arthur Bligh Stephens, 16th May 1882’.

562 With bamboo form spout, double hinged
loop handle with attached chain and stopper
and peach form finial, incised with a dense
bamboo grove with rockwork and above
waves, the flattened shoulder with a band of
archaistic characters, the base with stamped
marks 天津恆立 Tiānjīn héng lì, 足紋Zú wén
and 桂Guì. 9cm (3.1/2in) high excluding

Stamped marks of Luen Wo, Shanghai, circa
1880-1925
563 The bowl decorated with an elegant lady
in a sampan before further figures and boy
attendants in a tree-strewn garden, the base
interior with a pavilion beneath paulownia,
stamped mark ‘LW’ and artisan’s mark; the
cup flanked with bamboo form handles,
decorated with boys at play in a garden,
with undecorated central roundel, stamped
mark ‘LUENWO’ and artisan’s mark. The cup
15.2cm (6in) high. (2).
