A RARE SOAPSTONE RECLINING FIGURE
Mid Qing Dynasty
Unusually carved in the form of a male figure in a restful repose, with
its head resting atop a rectangular pillow, the pigtail coiled around his
head with jovial expression, the legs and hands crossed, wearing long
flowing robes incised with clouds, finely detailed with a pouch and
knife hanging from his belt. 13.4cm (5 1/4in) long.

FIGURE OF LÜ DONGBIN
17th/18th century
Zongli Quan, carved standing holding a fly-whisk in his left hand,
wearing long flowing robes finely incised with cloud scrolls, with a
smiling expression, bearded and with hair buns, 20.2cm (8in) high,
wood stand; Lü Dongbin, carved standing upright holding a fly-whisk
in his left hand, a sword hanging from his back, clad in long flowing
robes incised with clouds, his face with serene expression and long
wispy beard beneath a scholar’s cloth cap, wood stand, 16.2cm
(6 3/8in) high. (4).
