AN ARAGONITE ‘PRUNUS’ SNUFF BOTTLE
1820-1880
Of flattened pear shape with a waisted neck and slightly concave lip,
supported on a neat oval foot ring, carved in low relief, one side with
a pair of magpies perched on the branches of a flowering prunus tree,
the other side with a branch of flowering prunus in a vase surrounded
by other antiques.

A LAC BURGAUTE ‘POETIC VERSE’ SNUFF BOTTLE
1854-1930
Of flattened meiping shape with indented short sides, with a flat lip and
flat foot, the black lacquer ground inlaid with iridescent mother-of-pearl
and gold foil, one side with a lady seated on a garden terrace beneath
two lines of poetic verse describing her beauty, the other side with two
sages and an attendant below a poem by Tao Yuanming.
