A WHITE MARBLE SEATED LION
Tang Dynasty
Crouching on a plain, rectangular base, the stately
beast supported by powerful front legs and
muscular haunches, his head modeled with ears laid
back and teeth bared and framed by a thick mane
falling in natural tufts down his powerful back, thick
neck and chest.

TWO EARLY BUDDHIST CARVED STONE
SCULPTURE FRAGMENTS
Northern Qi/Sui Dynasty
The first, a marble fragment consisting of the upper
torso and head of a bodhisattva backed by a round
mandorla, the head and features framed by a pair of
flying apsara under a flaming jewel supported by two
dragons, all features worn, the stone a pale creamy
white color; the second, a limestone fragment caved
with a three-quarter figure of a Buddhist acolyte
holding a flaming jewel below the remnant of an
apsara, the priest's serene features well-defined. (2)
