engaged in beating and weaving silk by a riverbank
while another observes and supervises a young
child, their activities framed by the massive columns
and walkways of the impressive architectural
complex, all details finely rendered on the mirrored
surface and enclosed in an elaborate giltwood
frame.

A REVERSE GLASS MIRROR PAINTING OF A
RIVER OUTING
1770-1820
Finely rendered illustrating a boating party enjoying
a river outing, the host and two ladies enjoying the
fresh air on the aft deck while the oarsmen guides
the craft toward the shore where a group of well-
dressed women sit under an umbrella watched over
by their attendants, the shoreline filled with grand
houses, a verdant grove of trees and a bridge, the
foreground shore shown as a pastoral bank with
a recumbent ox resting on the lower right corner
of the painting, the mirrored surface employed to
represent the brilliance of a clear sky, the scene
enclosed in a lacquer Chinoiserie frame rendered
with waterway vignettes.
