Property from the Estate of Douglas G.
Bucher (1947-2023) sold to benefit the
Rensselaer County Historic Society /
Hart Cluett Museum.
Douglas Bucher studied architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute, graduating in 1971. Following a two-and-a-half-year stint in
Brazil as a member of the Peace Corps, Mr. Bucher returned to New
York to apply his architectural training to the discipline of historic
preservation, first at the New York Historic Trust and later with
John G. Waite Associates. In the field for nearly fifty years,
Mr. Bucher was involved with numerous important sites and
historic properties, including Alexander Hamilton's the
Grange in New York City, the New York State Capitol,
Albany and the Yin Yu Tang project, which saw the
relocation of a sixteen-bedroom Huizhou merchant's
home from Anhui province to the Peabody Essex
Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. A lifelong
collector and connoisseur of art, Mr. Bucher had a
keen interest in Chinese art and culture.
