MATCHLOCK DURING A BEARHUNT

A pu of black smoke tells us that a Raja has just red a shot
from his matchlock at a charging black bear. The bear then
depicted again, now sprawled below either wounded or dead.
A retainer runs alongside with a bow over his shoulder pointing
at the prey. On a green expanse of landscape surrounded by
stylized hills and burning brush.

The nimbated Maharana Jagat Singh II of Udaipur (r. 1734 -
1751) seated against a large vermillion-colored bolster on a
oral carpet, formally o ers a paan to his respectful sardar
Baba Bakhat Singh the son of Takhat Singh. A garland and a
talwar set out before them. Against a attened moss-green
background. Rhomboid-shaped ower beds and a water tank
geometrically displayed at the bottom.
