STAFFING
A good management team is at the heart of every successful business; however,
sourcing such an experienced team is not easy, especially for a new business. The
search has already started for a highly motivated passionate pre-opening team with the
aim being to have in place the core management team for the Newcastle Hot Shots
Centre six months ahead of the opening date.
STR already has fully capable HR resource and legal support capable of managing the
280 employees and subcontractors it now employs in its existing facilities and business
overall. Staff costs have been calculated at the sector standard of 38% of relevant
revenue. STR’s head office finance unit is already geared up to take on the extra work
involved in budgeting and reporting to HG&L with the individual subsidiary operating
numbers and year end accounts all running on Xero software.
The staff structure and numbers, employee handbook, model contracts and employment
terms and conditions are in Appendix 13.
FINANCIAL CONTROL
The Hot Shots business will need a seamlessly integrated system that tracks both
revenue and expenditure from point of sale, bay time booking and point of ordering
through to the production of accounts. STR has an experienced team of accounting and
IT personnel in place, who will work alongside HG&L’s CFO and the audit team. With the
demands of making tax digital (MTD) and HG&L’s early reporting requirements, progress
is on track towards implementing the financial system, which will be set up for testing
well before the opening of Newcastle Centre.
LEGAL
From Licensing to working at height regulations, there is a need to be fully compliant
with all regulation affecting the business. STR’s management team, which already
ensures full compliance and good governance in its existing facilities, will cover this area
with support from its specialist professional advisers.
MARKETING
Pre-opening marketing will focus on understanding and promoting the uniqueness of the
Hot Shots offer to a targeted market focusing on value for money advertising and social
media. Local radio and pro-active PR will help to establish relationships with the local
community and corporate customers. Building an efficient customer database is
essential to allow targeted marketing, customer loyalty and personalising the customer
experience.
