The First Group of Sisters Professing their Vows in 1924

The Congregation had reached four years of age on 08/24/1924. A great event
had brought undescribable happiness. Eleven sisters, after finishing their
Noviciate Year, professed their First Vows at the Carmel Chapel next door (as the
Congregation’s chapel was lacking room). Colorful flowers have blossomed in the
Congregation’s garden. Participating guests happily admired the new professes
generously advanced to the altar to profess their vows consecrating themselves
to our Lord Jesus Christ. This was the first time a profession of vows took place
not only in the history of the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate,
but also in the history of any autochthon Congregations in Vietnam, according to
the Church Canon of 1917. A Spring season of consecrated life has bloomed in
the country of Viet-nam. Joy spread over the Convent; such a big turn around
had marked a step forward for the Congregation.
                 Our new professes kept on wearing their crown of flowers on their heads all day;
happiness and thanksgivings overflew their hearts. When evening came, all the
sisters gathered in front of the Mary Immaculate’s altar while our eleven new
professes, kneeling down, offered their consecrated lives to Mary Immaculate,
mother and patron of the Congregation. They then deposited their flowered
crowns at the foot of Mary Immaculate our mother.

Departing to a New Discovery: Founding the First Community
                 in Nuoc Ngot

With God’s help, the Congregation continued to grow in His grace. It was time the
love charcoal-burners.was then a new parish, laying in An Bang village, Loc Thuy
Community, Phu Loc County, of Thua Thien Hue City, along Route number 1, at a
distance of 48 km from Hue City. The area was covered with woods, white birches,
thatch, bushes and cottages. Villagers burnt woods to make charcoal as they
were charcoal-burners. But they were also victims of recurrent fever, typhoid,
beri beri, itch and scabies... Children were illiterate and often sick. With guidance
from Rev. Fasseaux Phuong, a zealous and faithful missionary – the Complex
of Nuoc Ngot was built exactly like the clay model designed in the mind of our
Founder Msgr. Eugene Mary Joseph Allys when he founded the Congregation of
                 The Daughters of Mary Immaculate:
                 • A pretty modern infirmary equipped with different kinds of necessary
                    medecins from the Eastern World.
                 • An orphanage to bring up orphaned children.
                 • A retreat house for old people – old men as well as old women.
                 • A room to teach housework and house keeping to young girls.
                 • An elementary school to teach children religion, reading, writing. language,
mathematics, civic lessons and Viet-Nam culture.
