Doctors need to be sure that patients have understood the information the doctor gives
them. The best way to do this is to have the patient summarize what he/she has understood
from the session. The doctor should also end the session with the patient in the same way,
by summarizing what the doctor understands that the patient has said. This method helps to
prevent misunderstanding on the part of both the patient and the doctor.
