Short-term Disability
Short-term disability (STD) replaces a percentage of your annual base pay if
you are unable to work due to a non-work-related illness or injury for seven
or more consecutive days. If approved by the insurance company, your STD
benefit will be based on your years of service.
The plan pays benefits for up to six months. If you are still unable to work
after that, you may be eligible to receive long-term disability benefits.
STD is provided at no cost to you and is managed through MetLife.
Note: New employees are automatically covered by STD after completing
six months of continuous service with EFH.

Long-term Disability
Long-term disability (LTD) replaces a portion of your base pay if you are
unable to work due to an extended illness or injury. This benefit may be
available only after your short-term disability benefits end.
EFH provides 60% annual base pay replacement at no cost to you. LTD
benefits continue until you are no longer disabled or you reach age 65,
whichever comes first.
EFH pays the premiums for this coverage on a pre-tax basis. However, during
open enrollment you may choose to change these premiums to after-tax so
any benefits payable are not taxable income to you. If you choose to have
premiums paid after-tax, you will be taxed on the premiums the company
pays on your behalf.
