The centre panel of the famous School of
Hieronymus Bosch triptych, from which
the exhibition title is derived, forms the
pivot point for contemplations on the
garden. It fires up the imagination and
suggests a world where norms of good
and evil, pleasure and pain, animal and
human have dissolved into each other.
A paradise garden where inhibitions can
be let loose, and all the senses explored.
Historically, the idea of the garden had
its genesis as walled enclosures, which
often stood in stark contrast to their
surroundings. They were full of life, and
rich with colour and sounds. It is no
wonder there is an enduring link between
gardens and the concept of paradise.
And, consequently sensuous pleasure.
