Storm Prelude
for five harps
his is my second attempt
on writing a piece for
Tfive harps. By having
Drifting Away workshopped,
I was unsatisfied and frus-
trated with the result of it, Drifting Away is a piece
as the ideas that I had in my that would require a conduc-
mind did not come across as tor; due to the current world
I intended. Thus, I completely circumstances, mixing three
changed my approach while different student bubbles in

very unlikely. Furthermore,
when Drifting Away was
workshopped with the help of
a metronome, the result was
very different of what I in-
tended, as the piece sounded
disconnected, the complete
opposite of what I intended.
Thus, by taking away the time
signature and introducing
a stopwatch, aleatoric el-
ements as well as allowing
performers more freedom,
Storm Prelude is more con-
cise, resulting on a better

In order to write Storm Prelude, I decided to revisit my
origins, Brazil. Different from Britain, Brazil is a land of very
contrasting weather, due to its tropical nature. The most
remarkable events to me are of the tropical thunderstorms.
The following videos contain some footage of how destruc-
tive Thunderstorms can be, especially in cities, often result-
ing on power cuts, trees being hit by lightning strikes and
falling onto cars, flooding and strong winds.
