The Greatest Love
Scripture: Matthew 27:36-39 "Teacher, which is the greatest
commandment in the Law? Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your
God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your
mind This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second
is like it. "Love your neighbor as yourself.
Scripture: John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave
his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish
but have eternal life.
Definition: Love/loving: Strong affection, desire, or devotion.
As I was trying to decide what I should write for my Lenten
devotional, I remembered that the greatest love ever displayed
was that of Jesus dying to save the very people who were killing
him.
Luke 23:34 "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what
they are doing.”
I started checking to see how many times love is mentioned in
the Bible. I found 137 references. (Probably more)
As I age I sometimes feel guilty that I have slowed down and
am not working at the church as much any more. I then
remember that God's love is free and my works should be done as
appreciation for the love that God has already given me.
Prayer: Thank you Lord, for the great and free love that you have
sent to us. Thank you Jesus, that you loved us and forgave us our
sins while suffering great agony on the cross.
