Care Without Harm Southeast
Asia
Mara Manalang Medrano is the Regional Engagement Manager at Health Care
Without Harm Southeast Asia, where she leads the coordination and strategic
growth of the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals (GGHH) network across
Southeast Asia and East Asia. She plays a key role in mobilizing health systems to
take action on climate change, sustainability, and resilience. Mara has been
instrumental in supporting Ministries of Health across the region in their climate
mitigation and adaptation journeys. She has collaborated with national health
authorities in the Philippines, Timor Leste, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and
Vietnam to develop climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable healthcare
frameworks, conduct carbon footprinting initiatives, and strengthen the
implementation of green and safe hospital programs. Through technical
assistance, policy engagement, and facilitation of multi-stakeholder collaboration,
she has helped adapt global tools and strategies to fit local needs and realities,
ensuring that climate action in healthcare is both practical and transformative. As
the lead for GGHH in the region, Mara drives engagement, capacity building, and
knowledge exchange among a diverse network of hospitals, health systems, and
ministries committed to sustainable health leadership. She fosters regional
collaboration to amplify solutions that safeguard both human and planetary
health. Before joining Health Care Without Harm, Mara worked on environmental
and trade justice campaigns across the Asia-Pacific, empowering civil society
organizations to promote sustainable and rights-based development initiatives.
Mara holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. Drawing from
her technical training and her background in grassroots advocacy, she bridges
global climate and health goals with the realities of healthcare systems on the
ground. Her work reflects a commitment to building a future where healthcare
institutions are leaders in climate resilience, sustainability, and social justice.
