We are lost and cold in the mountains of Mongolia but luckily, we happen upon a tribe of
Kazakh Hunters. Freezing cold, the hunters take us in and wrap us in exquisite wolf furs
to fend off hypothermia.
Asking where they get such amazing furs, I am told by our ‘Dandy’ interpreter that such
was their understanding of (not to mention their bond with) life, they use Golden Eagle
companions to hunt wolves. In disbelief of this, I ask to accompany them on their next
hunt.
Having now seen firsthand the incredible ability of these hunters and their birds, I have
decided to spend time living with them in an attempt to learn their ways.
Not having an eagle of my own, I have started training a young sparrow hawk and have
named him Aquilam after his eagle counterparts.
Unfortunately, I have only achieved varying degrees of success with Aquilam as all he has
been able to return to me is a shrub of Wolfberries.
