I arrive in Ceylon to find the country's core crop of coffee decimated by a horrid blight.
This is a potentially devastating blow to the local economy.
I arrange a meeting with the governor of the colony to offer help by way of the seeds
from Kew gardens that I carry in my hold for this very reason. The governor tells me
with sadness that he has just recently parted with a small fortune to a certain Mr
Fogstone for tea plants. I give the Governor many species of flora including rubber and
curry plants both of which I think will be excellent in this climate. It is however the
carrots he is most excited by as they are a favourite from home.
The following morning I set off to investigate the source of this blight and a worrying
trend is forming... I have heard of repeated sightings of a man matching the description
of my arch rival Livingarty in all of the regions where the coffee blight has taken hold
leading me to the conclusion that he may be responsible for this horticultural catastrophe.
I return to the Governor’s residence to report my findings and in turn, my suspicions. The
governor asks me to describe Professor Livingarty and in my telling he turns pale, stating
he believes that the mysterious Fogstone and Livingarty are one and the same.
