(Obviously, for the mainsheet strop a low-stretch polyester webbing is
called for, while a mooring or anchor line application calls for the stretch

               of nylon webbing.)
To join webbing, use either the webbing bend or the grass knot.
The webbing bend is identical in configuration to the water knot, the
name used when the knot is tied in rope. The knot tends to jam in rope but
in webbing this quite actually becomes a desirable quality, as it makes for
                reliability in a tricky material.
To make the webbing bend, simply tie an overhand knot on one end and
take the opposite end through the knot in the reverse direction. As with
any webbing tie, leave generous tails and pull up the knot forcefully. This
                will prevent gradual slippage.
