The Big Idea – Act 1

Occasions for action missed,
Ideas half-completed,
Constant absent-mindedness:
These are men nature cheated.

With them a women’s danger
Is not the back of a hand:
It is male indifference,
Which her ego cannot stand!

But their bumbling arouses
In some the mother-instinct;
Else they never would find mates
And their type would be extinct.

WOMAN 3: But is there no secret way to control them?

WOMAN 1: Of course not. You simply must avoid them.

WOMAN 4: But how can what you said be secrets? You’ve let the cat
out of the bag: they heard everything you said.

WOMAN 1: (laughs) So what? Even if they understood our little chat,
they wouldn’t remember it. They have the attention-span of a
sparrow.

WOMAN 2: Come on, let’s go inside. I want to see who else is here.
Did he ask all the women?

WOMAN 1: I think so. But the others are busy or just don’t care.
And I don’t think they believed him when he said we would all be
participating in a decision.

WOMAN 3: Do you?

WOMAN 1: I don’t know. I can’t remember any other time when
women’s opinions were solicited publicly.

WOMAN 4: Well, I think it’s very courageous of him.

WOMAN 2: See! I told you she likes him.

WOMAN 4: You’re jealous!
