The Big Idea – Act 1

        WOMAN 1: I mean there are three kinds of men: thinkers, doers, and
        these creeps. Now, I don’t know which one you go for, my dears, but
        I’ve learned a few things in my time, and I can give you some sound
        advice.

        WOMAN 3: Oh, do tell us!

        WOMAN 4: Try and stop her.

        WOMAN 1: Well, girls, it’s like this:

        Women have a secret life,
        Something of it I shall tell;
        Men are easily confused
        About things they should know well.

        Strength is in their hairy hands,
        And no babies must they bear;
        On their side tradition lies—
        Question it? We do not dare!

        Yet the hopes and fears they hide
        I do not conceal from you—
        We exchange them all the time;
        Women are expected to.

        Power can be exercised
        By the weak if they’re quiet;
        But not weakness by the strong—
        Their fellows would decry it.

        Thus it is by possession
        Of our bodies they maintain
        Possession of their own minds:
        Oh, how twisted is man’s brain!

        WOMAN 3: Well, all that may be true, but I don’t see how it applies
        to choosing a man.

        WOMAN 1: Wait, wait: there’s more:
