working class”.
Party Formerly a planned event; now a provocatively ambiguous
verb.
Pasta Noodles, at twice the price.
PC Politically correct; implication that sociopolitical equality is an
extremist partisan idea, and not a legal, moral or ethical issue.
Person of interest Refers to an unacknowledged suspect,
skirting liability if in error.
Problematic A “weasel word” euphemism for what would be
embarrassing to specify.
Profanity Formerly distinct from obscenity.
Props “Proper respect”; grudging acknowledgment. Plural is
inexplicable except as intensive.
Quality Former neutral noun, now a euphemism for “possibly
better than average.” Similar erosion is ongoing for “priority”.
Reform Reduction—except for the reformers.
Reimagine 1. Copy and change detrimentally but proudly. 2. Try
again to get it right.
Reinvent Formerly, duplicate something lost; now, superficially
change and repackage to make attractive; includes oneself as well
as products.
Shooter Person who may have had a gun; and, if so, may have
fired it.
