Toward dusk Eddie Puss was awakened from fitful slumber by the
faint sound of another cat’s slow progress toward him. He opened
one eye and focused it upon the bedraggled form of Levi Katz
stumbling along the edge of the fence. The black cat looked like he
had been in a terrible fight: scratched and bruised, whiskers bent and
ears at half-mast.
Eddie’s lunatic growl was tinged with disappointment: “Kill you—
but you’re dead already!”
