The white cat did not answer. He found his usual spot in a pile of
        old  bricks  and  broken  pavement  and  sat  down  gingerly  in  a  half-
        crouch.
          “I’ve got nothing to say,” he muttered. Then suddenly seized with a
        violent  paroxysm,  Billy  Bob  retched  and  vomited  copiously.  Levi
        leapt  aside  to  miss  the  onslaught,  and  came  down  twitching  and
        screeching in pain.
          “Sorry I asked!”
          He remembered Eddie at that moment, and looked with curiosity
        at  the  psychotic  calico.  “Hey,  what  about  you?  You  were  just  as
        famished as we were, and you didn’t leave the alley: why aren’t you
        delirious with hunger, writhing in the final throes of starvation?”
