Page 49 - DAPHNE HART - MY MAMA STORY (AUDIO VERSION)
P. 49

With a lot of help from one of my brothers, he got all the necessary
papers and her passport, put her on a plane, and sent her over to Canada

to be with me. She thought she was just going to spend time with her

uncle. Like I said before, she didn’t really know me by face. So when
she found herself in Canada with people she didn’t know, she was not

happy. For a long time, she never spoke to us—just gave us that “I hate
          you” look.

Thus began another phase of my life—too painful to record. She was

just 13 years old with a 30-year-old mentality. Because I took her away
suddenly from her lifestyle in Jamaica, which was not good, she

decided to make my life a living hell. We’ll leave the details out. I will
just say: because I had to work three jobs to take care of my other kids,

my daughter became the other woman in my life.

So began another lifetime of misery.

Meanwhile, my tormentor had secretly come up to Canada. I don’t

know how he did it, but he was able to send for the oldest girl without
me even knowing. In those days, things were so different from today.

Meaning: he could not have brought her here without my approval.

There were four more children left behind, and he had no intention of

helping me to file for them. My plan was to get them two at a time, but

Immigration would not allow it. Finally, for the sake of the children,
we put everything together and brought them all up at once. He wanted

to leave my son behind, but Immigration would not allow it either.
