small man, four feet or less. But his desire was to see this Jesus of whom
he had heard so much. Seeing the crowd coming in his direction, he ran
ahead and climbed up in a sycamore tree to get a good view. Jesus
looked up and saw him, then commanded him to come down right
away.
“Today,” he said, “I’ve got to eat lunch at your house.”
He was very nervous because he knew that his house and his life were
not in order. But he obeyed. Good thing he did, because he had a
transformed life from that day on. He lived happily after he paid back
the people all that he had stolen from them in taxes. His name was
ZACCHAEUS.
Driving to New York on weekends was a pastime for a lot of people,
especially if you have family there. My husband decided that we should
go on the weekend also. We had a brand-new car, so no problem, right?
After working all week, he came home Friday evening saying, “We are
going to drive to New York, leaving tonight.” I suggested we wait until
morning, but as usual, what he says goes.
After we left the border, he became tired, fell asleep, and ran off the
road into a ditch. He told me not to say that he fell asleep, but it was so
obvious, I didn’t need to say anything. It was only God’s mercy that
allowed us to run off at that spot—and not into a ravine or a bridge.
Needless to say, we got stuck. In the back seat was my little girl.
Someone called the cops, and they called a tow truck to pull us out. The
