car was not too badly damaged, so we came back home. We never tried
it again until years later.
Meanwhile, the kids were growing up nicely, going to school, and
making decisions for themselves. Some good, some not so good. But
they all grew up nicely by the grace of God, choosing their own careers
and making their own decisions.
Another story my mom read to me was the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11–
32). It’s about two brothers living at home with their parents. The
younger one said, “Dad, give me my inheritance now; I’ve got to go
find myself.” He kept bugging his father until he said okay. So he did
just that—sold all he had and divided it among them. The younger son
took his portion and went off into the sunset.
It wasn’t long before he ran into trouble. Instead of hanging out with
friends, he was dining with pigs. So he decided to go back home and
ask for forgiveness. His father was so loving and kind, he welcomed
him home with open arms and prepared a feast for him.
That’s how God loves us. Even when we wander away from Him, He
will forgive us when we ask and receive us back to Himself.
Over the years, my girls grew up into beautiful young ladies, got
married, and gave me many grandchildren. I am so proud of them. They
are all so precious.
