In 2003, my husband and I lodged a visa application for
Canada. Five years later, we were finally called in for our
medical exam for permanent residency. Everything went
well. But two months later, I went through a supposedly
minor hysterectomy, only for the medical team to discover
in the middle of the operation that I had ovarian cancer.
Doctors were immediately called in to assist in taking out
the visible tumors.
When I learned about my cancer, I thought of my kids, my
husband, and, yes, my own death. I did not ask the Lord,
“Why me?” or “Why so soon?” I managed to jump to the
next question,” What will happen to my family? Despite my
fears, the Holy Spirit gave me a cheerful spirit. I turned my
eyes to God and His love, Goodness, and Faithfulness. I told
my husband, “Don’t be scared; I have a bigger God than
these tumors.”
Sadly, after the surgery, I had to undergo six cycles of
chemotherapy. This treatment is costly in the Philippines. I
wondered, “Will we be able to pay and finish the six
cycles?” God’s answer was “yes.” I completed my chemo,
along with several tests. The funds did not come in all at
