THE ATTITUDES OF THE HEART

A HEART THAT VALUES THE KINGDOM

There is one master key to the heart attitude that God wants us to have
towards wealth and prosperity, and it is this: More than we seek
possessions, and more than we seek position, more than prosperity and
more than success—God wants us to seek Him and His kingdom first,
before and above all else. So, He tells us, “Seek first the kingdom of God
and his righteousness, and all these other things will be given to you as
well” (Matthew 6:28).

The Kingdom of God that we are to seek is not to be found in the world
around us: The Kingdom of God only exists in our hearts. Therefore,
Jesus tells us that “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful
observation, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the
kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17: 20-21).

Every kingdom has laws and rules laid down by its king. The Kingdom
of God is formed in us as we allow the Word to transform the attitudes
of our hearts so that our King reigns supremely there. The result we are
told in Romans 14:17 is a life that is marked by righteousness, joy and
peace.

Also, when establishing God’s kingdom in our hearts takes first priority,
the Scriptures tell us “all other things will be added” unto us. We won’t
have to chase after God’s blessings, because as we follow hard after
God, His blessings will come from behind and overtake us.

“For the kingdom of God
is not a matter of eating and drinking,
but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,
because anyone who serves Christ in this way
is pleasing to God and approved by men.”
(Romans 14:17)
