THE ATTITUDES OF THE HEART

A HEART THAT TRUSTS IN GOD

When God blesses us with material possessions, it is not a difficult thing
to begin to perceive the gift, rather than the Giver, as the source of our
security. We begin to see the job that God has provided, as the source
of our provision. We look to the house, the roof that God supernaturally
set over our head, as the source of our protection. We anxiously cling
to the position or the possession, uncertain as to what we will do if we
should lose it. Too often the pressure of keeping a job, or a home, or
any other possession or position begins to consume our lives. When this
happens, we have to stop, take stock, and ask ourselves if we are truly
trusting in God. If the answer that we truthfully come to is “no,” then we
must begin to intentionally find our way back to a place of resting in
          God.

 So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we
drink?” or “What shall we wear?” … But seek first his kingdom
and his righteousness and all other things will be given to you.
                 (Matthew 6:31&33)

 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer
and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.
And the peace of God that transcends all understanding, will
guard your hearts and minds... (Philippians 4:6)

 In returning and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is
                 your strength. (Isaiah 30:15)

“After this, Job got up and tore his clothes and shaved his head.
Then he fell to the ground in worship and said:
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
                               and naked I will depart.
                    The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
may the name of the Lord be praised.””
                                     (Job 1:20-21)

                                                                            31
