Chapter Twenty-Five

“Really?” He is grinning from ear to ear.
“Yes, let’s do it.” I dive into his arms, wrapping the blanket
around both of us. “Let’s get married!”
I am elated. More than a little shocked but bubbling over
with excitement, I lay my shivering body down on top of his.
He pulls the blanket over us and we kiss and embrace this very
            special moment.
“I love you so much,” I whisper as tears well up in my eyes.
“Me too.” He kisses my forehead.
“This feels so surreal. I can’t believe this is happening.” I
            reach for a tissue.
“Let’s go and tell Ken and Brenda. Shall we?”
               “Okay, yes! Let’s!”
I grab Hudson’s tattered, navy terrycloth robe and throw
it on. I’m swimming in it but I don’t care. It belongs to my
fiancé. My FIANCÉ! He pulls on his underwear and we rush
down the hall to tell his roommate and girlfriend our great
news. They’re super excited for us and, as much as we’d love a
champagne toast, we decide that beer will have to do.
“I think once you tell someone, it’s official. Right?”
I’m grinning as I walk to the kitchen fridge. My heart is
            overflowing!
“Sounds about right to me.” Hudson grins back at me as
he pops the cap off the beer bottle.
“Well, I guess that’s it then. We are now - ENGAGED!”
The four of us clink our bottles in an enthusiastic “cheers!”
Wanted. Accepted. Desired. My heart is bursting with
pure joy and love. At least I’m pretty sure it’s love. I realize I
haven’t ever heard Hudson say the words “I love you.” But he
must, right? He wants to marry me!
Excitement is pulsing through my veins. But this time it’s
feel-good excitement. Hudson and I have so much in common.
